
Incidences of banking fraud are alarmingly on the rise, as is the magnitude of amounts involved. A new report by the Banking Fraud Investigation Department, reveals that Kenyan banks lost nearly 800 million shillings to fraud in the first 6 months of the year, and warns that the relative stability enjoyed by the sensitive industry in recent years could be disturbed if the trend continues. The report indicates that most banking fraud cases involve bank employees, and questions the recruitment criteria in some banks.
